There’s Competition? So What?

There’s Competition? So What?

What’s holding you back?

It’s summer! This means camping trips, backyard BBQ’s, and the opportunity to make some big changes to better yours and your family’s future. But, there is always something holding you back. There’s a nagging little voice in the back of your mind that is telling you why you can’t do it, why you shouldn’t do it. Over the next few weeks I am going to focus on these reasons and give you some ammunition to help quiet that little voice once and for all!

Reason #1: Competition

First, I want to begin this series with the biggest one – competition. This question is asked of me on a daily basis, “There are already leagues in my area, how do I compete?” My response is always “Competition is a good thing; it means people want sports programs for their kids.” And this is true, it is a good thing. Do you know what I’m really thinking? “You have leagues in your area, so what?” Seems harsh right? But it’s true.

Forget about the competition
Forget about the competition

You have competition? Who doesn’t?

I find there is a lot of hesitation surrounding this perceived competition, particularly when buying a franchise. People are concerned because there are already football leagues, or sandwich shops, or health care services. I would also guess that you would say they are all great and everybody loves them. Am I right? Well, guess what? That simply isn’t true. Not everyone is happy with their leagues, not everyone loves the programs. They continue to play because that is what is available to them.  In a previous post we discussed this very point.

The last point I would make is that competition makes you stronger, makes you better, and necessitates the need to further broaden and expand your brand. In this Forbes article, 5 Reasons Why Competition is Good For Your Business, the author touches on this point in greater detail.

So, I ask you again – “You have competition, so what?”
